Add my personal version

Feature Request

One of the things I really enjoy in Bible study is writing/typing out the Bible text. I realize you might not be able to get access to add NIV or a non public-domain text, but I’d love to be able to add a version myself and add the versions as I go. Don’t know if that’s possible, but would be an absolute dream for my study process and workflow.

    Thanks for the response Kara! Did some planning and released a new version that has a new Personal Bible Version picker. I think this workflow is really cool and useful! Let me know what you think and if you have any feedback, if you get a chance to check it out!

    Hey Kara!

    You're absolutely right, NIV and modern translations are locked down with licensing, so I can't bundle them directly unless I get permission (likely).

    The "add your own version" approach is really interesting. It fits Forge's philosophy (local-first, you own your data). I'm thinking it would work as importing translation files… maybe supporting a few different formats to make it flexible. If you have thoughts on how you'd want this to work, I'd love to hear them. I’ll definitely explore what makes sense.

    Also love that you type out Bible text as part of your study. Is that for memorization, or more about the manual engagement helping you process it?

      I am really terrible at memorization so while I’d love to be better at that, this is really for manual engagement to help me process. I go back and forth between handwriting (in a Goodnotes document) and typing (right now in Obsidian).

      In thinking about how to put this into practice in Forge, I’d be great if there was an “Add Personal Version” or some other button. When I click that (in the left hand part of the screen), it would give me a screen to put in the metadata for that version (like you have on the current KJV and BSB versions). When I click “Create” then a blank “outline” would be filled in with all chapters and verses populated blankly. I would then just click in the first chapter/verse I want to type in. Keyboard first navigation would mean I could just press Enter or Tab to move from one verse to the next as I type.

      I appreciate you thinking about whether or not this is a possible option.
