Bible text search?

Quick search lets you search for a verse, but it would be AWESOME if it could search the text of the selected Bible as well.

Amazing 🙂 I noticed it caps the results at 50 (I’m sure that’s for performance sake), but curious how you determine which results to actually show. For example, searching for “loved” barely shows John 3:16 (result #49 for me).

Is it possible to expand the search results without slowing down performance too much?

Thanks for flagging this - bumping the limit to 150 in the next release.

Quick question: when you search, are you usually typing single words like "loved" or partial phrases like "loved the world"? Trying to figure out if smarter ranking is worth building or if 150 results covers it

Thanks Mike! New release is out now with “Spotlight“ for Bible. This is a great add and I find I’m using it a lot. I want it to be fast, so if you notice any lag in getting the verses let me know.

Quick search for verse references is working, but you're right that being able to search the actual TEXT of Scripture would be way more powerful.

I think I have an idea of how I’d want to build this to keep the app performant. If you have thoughts or ideas on what would be most helpful type of search e.g. specific word/phrase searches (“love your enemies“) vs. thematic searches (like all mentions of "faith" in James), love to hear it!

    Added this to roadmap! Thanks!

I think the most useful for me would simply be a plain text search. Many times I get pieces of a scripture in my head and can’t remember the reference (i.e. “God so loved the world”), and sadly every single Bible app I’ve used has been much worse for finding the verse than Google has.

So for me, I would use this kind of like Spotlight for the Bible text. The thematic stuff could be cool, but honestly I think that’d be better built by hand. I currently do this in Obsidian using Tags, but maybe there’s another feature in there? For example, you could basically just add tags but put a wrapper on it and call them “Themes” and have different icons for each like you do for the atoms.
